In the 1960s, Northern Ireland was thrown into what would be become one of the longest civil wars in history. Known as “The Troubles,” this conflict would rip apart this tiny country, eventually making it one of the most heated and contentious conflict zones in the world. In 1998, finally, a peace agreement was signed. Carrah came to Northern Ireland in 2007, as a detour from her residency in Dublin, Ireland, studying for her master’s degree. She was pregnant, alone, in a foreign country and surrounded by the shadows of war. After realizing the father of her child was not who she thought he was, she had to come to grips with her own personal conflict. What can a conflict zone teach you about your own personal dilemmas? How has the Peace Agreement of Northern Ireland become a beacon to the world? And what does it really take to create peace, on a national and personal level?
