Featured Speaker: Kelly Hewitt,
Immigration Law and Asylum: Demystifying the Asylum Process
Musical Guest: Mark Lowrey
Community Moment: TBA

Asylum law is so complex, an entire semester of law school could be spent on it. This presentation endeavors to briefly explain the asylum process to help participants understand the alleged “crisis” at our southern border. It will focus on the legal path to asylum in the United States and debunking the myths and lies prevalent in the media.

Note: Due to the terrible situations asylum seekers are fleeing, this presentation may include mention of violence, domestic violence and sexual assault. None of these situations will be described in detail.

Kelly Hewitt is a fierce advocate for immigrants. Before becoming a lawyer, Kelly was a social worker in Kansas City, advancing the rights of crime victims. Now as an attorney Kelly uses that same passion for social justice to zealously pursue her clients’ rights in Immigration Court, before the USCIS and on appeal. Kelly is a fluent Spanish speaker.
