We will touch on topics like media stereotypes\, treaty rights\, citizenship\, and how “harmless” claims of native heritage can endanger legal sovereignty. \nAbout the speaker:\nSam ᏩᏛᏚᎦ Phillips is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and descendant of the Anisahoni\, or Blue\, clan. Sam is a Two-Spirit\, queer\, indigenous activist\, and Cherokee Nation Foundation scholar with a focus on Legal Studies as it applies to American Indian Sovereignty\, Health\, and Current Issues; Sam is striving to obtain a law degree with the intent of working in the office of the Attorney General of Cherokee Nation upon completion.
