Children 8 years of age and older are welcome to participate.\nAdditional information:\nThe Volunteer Engagement Center is a vital part of Harvesters’ mission to feed hungry people today and work to end hunger tomorrow. Volunteer tasks are assigned based on product availability and project prioritization.\nOpportunities include:\nSorting and boxing nonperishable food\nPacking fresh produce\nSorting and boxing bread\nRepacking ready-to-eat food and bulk products\nMay include refrigerated or meat products\nPacking BackSnack\nHarvesters is committed to creating and sustaining a safe environment for its staff\, volunteers\, and visitors regarding necessary precautions surrounding COVID-19. That said\, we rely on Jackson county’s reported level of transmission when declaring times that those within our facilities must wear a mask to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Please be aware that this level of transmission is fluid; therefore\, the masking policy at Harvesters will be as well.\nThe following are important things you need to know about volunteering in our warehouse:\nTo be prepared no matter what the level of community transmission\, we encourage all volunteers and visitors to be prepared to wear a mask when coming to our facility to volunteer.\nAll volunteers must be free of any contagious illness (runny nose\, colds\, the flu\, strep throat\, etc.)\nVolunteers must be 8 years or older\nVolunteers ages 8-15 must have an adult chaperone\nGroups must meet the following ratios:\n8-11 year olds: one adult per five youth\n12-15 year olds: one adult per 10 youth\nClose toed shoes and long pants (no shorts\, skirts or dresses) are required.\nVolunteers without close toe shoes will not be able to serve in the Volunteer Engagement Center\nHarvesters no longer provides Crocs\nDressing in layers and bringing a jacket is recommended\, even during the summer.\nPlease leave all valuable jewelry at home. This includes rings which may come off in the packing process.\nParking is limited so please carpool. Visitor parking is available in front of the building and in an overflow lot across the street. If spots fill\, please limit street parking to the east side (closest to the building). Please enter through the Volunteer Entrance (under the red awning).\nWe encourage volunteers to bring donations with them when they volunteer or to donate to our virtual food drive by following this link: http://www.harvesters.org/PlanAFundraiser. Every $1 donated to Harvesters helps provide 3 meals. September is Hunger Action Month. We are encouraging volunteers to bring non-perishable orange items\, such as carrots\, sweet potatoes\, and oranges.\n*By participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (http://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).
