SUMMARY:KC Oasis & The People's Climate March
DESCRIPTION:At Kansas City Oasis\, we believe that Reality Is Known Through Reason. We know that climate change is a real phenomenon that threatens the way of life for all of us and for generations to come. For this reason\, the KC Oasis Social Action Team has partnered with the People’s Climate March to join alongside others in Washington DC and around the world to stand together on April 29th for Climate\, Justice\, and Jobs. \n*By participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (https://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/). \nFor more info\, contact Mikayla Dreyer\, Guy Niederhauser\, Julia Lloyd\, Autumn Winegar\, or Dave Brown. \n—-\nOFFICIAL INFO from the Kansas City March Organizers: \nOur rally is your chance to show our community that people in the Heartland have a voice and that we stand with the marchers at the People’s Climate Movement March in Washington\, DC on 4/29. \nGiven the Administration’s and Congress’s increasing assault on research and regulations that protect climate\, the air\, and water\, it is clear we must fight to protect the gains made over the last 30+ years while we articulate and demand initiatives to move our nation to a new\, clean energy economy. \nIt’s critical that a broad-based movement of concerned citizens\, scientists\, environmental advocates\, social justice groups and labor push forward our vision of a clean\, safe world where the rights of all people are protected and expanded. To achieve that vision\, we all must work together\, here\, in our communities. Time is of the essence. Join us and begin! \nGoFundMe account: https://www.gofundme.com/ClimateMarchKC \nPeople’s Climate March Kansas City Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1879755652301435/ \nTwitter: @ClimateMarchKC\n#climatemarchkc\, #climateaction\, #climatejustice \nAction Network: http://bit.ly/2m4mRKd \nWe are sponsored by Kansas Sierra Club and our co-sponsors: Thomas Hart Benton/MO Sierra Club\, 350KC\, Kansas City Climate Coalition\, NAACP\, Sustainable Sanctuary Coalition and our partners who advocate for Climate\, Justice\, and Jobs. \nFor more information on the official message of the march\, please visit the national site at http://peoplesclimate.org/ \nContact: Gail Shafton at spiritednp@gmail.com or John Kurmann at willowjohn@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Sunday Gathering: Joe Davidson\, "Unleash Your Inner Scientist"
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 10:30 am for coffee and conversation.\nSunday Gathering begins at 11 a.m.\nChild care is provided. Everyone is welcome!\nProgram ends at 12:30 p.m. \nFeatured Speaker: Joseph Davidson\, “Unleash Your Inner Scientist”\nCommunity Moment: Brittani Rhoades\nMusical Guest: Annie Ellicott \nScience is a process of discovery and innovation that has challenged some of the oldest institutions of civilization and allows humans to alter the entire planet in a way no other species ever has or can. The method\, at its core\, is remarkably simple\, but though every living person is affected by science\, few practice it\, and even fewer understand the difference between science and the results it produces. This presentation will explore the basic steps of science with real-life examples\, and show how anyone can be a scientist. \nAbout the speaker:\nJoseph Davidson is a chemist specializing in analytical and synthetic organometallic processes. He has a master’s degree from the University of Michigan\, and his work spans a wide range of experience\, from exam question writing to materials development to analytical chemistry in faraway places. He created trading cards and essays for the 118 chemical elements “just for fun.” Joe also dabbles in musical composition\, history and teaching. see explores the interface between science and art and enjoys transmitting his joy of discovery and learning. \n*By participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (https://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).

SUMMARY:KC Oasis partners with Micah Ministry - Living our Values
DESCRIPTION:At Kansas City Oasis our values are “People are more important than beliefs”\, “human hands solve human problems”\, and “meaning comes from making a difference”. In that spirit\, we partner with Micah Ministry to help feed and clothe those in need. \nThe Micah Ministry is a charitable organization that seeks to help anyone\, regardless of race\, gender\, religious (or non-religious) affiliation\, sex\, sexual orientation\, or any other trait – as long as they could use some help\, the Micah Ministry is there to help them. \nThe Micah Ministry operates in a way that’s a bit different from traditional support organizations. They feed those who seek their services with a restaurant-style waiting operation: volunteers take drink and food orders and deliver the food to them\, providing seconds if needed and continuing to refill their drinks as needed. \nIn addition to food\, if there are enough volunteers\, they operate a clothing and household items (toiletries\, candles\, blankets\, and other items) store. Volunteers ask each person for their order\, go back into the store room\, and retrieve the requested items as long as they are in stock. \nThe Micah Ministry is a religious organization\, which means that the event is started by an optional group prayer at the beginning. \nIn our past volunteer experiences with them\, we have never been pressured to pray with them and they have always been glad to have us participate in their group. \nPictures are permitted to be taken prior to the admission of those in need\, but\, once people are being admitted into the dining area\, no pictures are allowed. \nBy participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (https://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).

DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 10:30 am for coffee and conversation.\nSunday Gathering begins at 11 a.m.\nChild care is provided. Everyone is welcome!\nProgram ends at 12:30 p.m. \nFeatured Speakers: James & Michelle Morgan\, “Mobility Matters: How Spare Change Can Bring About Great Change”\nCommunity Moment: Nate Brame\nMusical Guest: Pablo Sanhueza & the Subtropicals \nJames and Michelle Morgan\, active participants at KC Oasis\, are excited to announce the launch of the “Mobility Matters” international humanitarian project in Nicaragua\, in cooperation with Metanoia Ministries and the Free Wheelchair Mission. Being poor in the developing world is hard. Being poor and disabled in the developing world is a nightmare. Most disabled people in the poorest places live their lives in a dark room. Without wheelchairs\, the handicapped must be carried everywhere or are forced to crawl. Their families are forced to make impossible decisions\, to go out and find work to provide food and other basic needs\, or to stay home and care for the needs of their loved one. It is heartbreaking. But a free wheelchair can dramatically change the lives of the disabled and their entire family. Because human hands solve human problems and meaning comes from making a difference\, James and Michelle will share the why\, where\, when and how of Mobility Matters. \n*By participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (https://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).
