SUMMARY:KC Oasis Volunteers at Micah Ministry
DESCRIPTION:MASKS ARE OPTIONAL. \n*Note: It’s okay if you can’t get there until 5:15-5:30. \nAt Kansas City Oasis our values are “People are more important than beliefs\,” “human hands solve human problems\,” and “meaning comes from making a difference.” In that spirit\, we partner with Micah Ministry to help feed and clothe those in need. \nMicah Ministry serves hundreds of people every Monday evening from 5:15-7:15. They help anyone\, regardless of race\, gender\, religious (or nonreligious) affiliation\, sex\, sexual orientation\, or any other trait. Come join us in helping our less fortunate neighbors. \nVolunteers will greet the guests\, serve food\, offer beverages\, fill clothing requests and help with litter control. If there are enough volunteers\, there may be the option to sort clothing.\nThe Micah Ministry is a religious organization\, which means that the event is started by an optional group prayer at the beginning. We have never been pressured to pray with them and they have always been glad to have us participate in their group. \nDue to COVID\, masks are required\, and the event is currently being held outside instead of in the dining hall. \nPlease meet in the parking lot behind the church\, where we will get our volunteer assignments. \nBy participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (http://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).

SUMMARY:KC Oasis Volunteers at After the Harvest
DESCRIPTION:***Location has been updated to 3916 St. John Ave\, Kansas City\, MO\, 64123. We will be gleaning cherry tomatoes and tending beds at St John Community Garden. We’ll meet at the garden at 8am. There is not a bathroom on-site\, so please plan accordingly if you’d like to stop at a gas station beforehand. You can park on the street or in the parking lot of Back Door Pottery. \nAfter the Harvest rescues nutritious fruits and vegetables from going to waste and donates them to agencies that serve hungry people\, primarily in Greater Kansas City. Our volunteers glean after the harvest\, picking what’s left in farmers’ fields and picking up already harvested leftover produce. The majority of the funds we raise helps secure semi-truckloads of donated produce that might otherwise end up in landfills. After the Harvest\, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit\, is the largest local produce donor to Harvesters—The Community Food Network. Learn more at aftertheharvestkc.org. \nThe location for this event will be determined the week of September 11th. We may not know the exact location until September 15th as After the Harvest works with growers to determine where there is food available to harvest. The location may be 30-45 minutes outside of downtown Kansas City. \nIMPORTANT! Each volunteer must fill out a liability waiver prior to the event: https://aftertheharvestkc.formtitan.com/signupplus?fld15=0033m00002uh7MSAAY&fld64=a0Y3m00000Us0tUEAR&fld65=a0a3m00000EsLFwAAN&fld66=a0X3m00000amjalEAA#/ \nGleaning FAQs: Read in preparation for your experience. https://aftertheharvestkc.org/home/gleaning-faq/ \n*By participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (http://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).

SUMMARY:KC Oasis Sunday Gathering – Featured speaker: Lu Tarr\, Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City: "Art in the Garden"
DESCRIPTION:Musical guest: TBA\nCommunity moment: TBA\nFeatured speaker: Lu Tarr\, Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City: “Art in the Garden” \nYOU are an artist; you just don’t know it yet! Almost anything can be art … it’s all in the eye of the beholder. Singular or mass plantings\, formal or informal gardening can all be enhanced by repurposing everyday household items. Discarded tools\, iron\, water\, stones\, and feeding stations for birds or butterflies can all be incorporated into your gardens. Mass plantings in planned patterns can provide extra beauty with a big statement. Make a peaceful haven among your plants with benches\, statuary\, and a touch of whimsy. Let your imagination be your inspiration! \nLu Tarr became a Master Gardener in 2010. Her volunteer efforts have included Kansas City’s Flower\, Lawn & Garden Show\, Garden ‘n Grow\, Hotline\, Community Gardens\, and her personal favorite\, Speakers Bureau. \nLu is a lifelong gardening enthusiast; it’s in her blood\, as she was raised on a Northern Iowa farm. She loves being outside as much as possible\, whether it’s tending to the garden or just enjoying the sunshine with her cat. During the spring\, you can find her working at a local garden center\, and in the past\, working at an apple orchard in the fall. Monday through Friday\, she enjoys being “daycare” for her grandson. \nLocation: UMKC Royall Hall 111\n800 E. 52nd St.\, Kansas City\, MO 64110\nFree Sunday parking in the parking garage at 52nd and Rockhill Rd. (enter from 52nd & Charlotte). \n*By participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (http://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).
