SUMMARY:KC Oasis Volunteers at After the Harvest
DESCRIPTION:***Location has been updated to 3916 St. John Ave\, Kansas City\, MO\, 64123. We will be gleaning cherry tomatoes and tending beds at St John Community Garden. We’ll meet at the garden at 8am. There is not a bathroom on-site\, so please plan accordingly if you’d like to stop at a gas station beforehand. You can park on the street or in the parking lot of Back Door Pottery. \nAfter the Harvest rescues nutritious fruits and vegetables from going to waste and donates them to agencies that serve hungry people\, primarily in Greater Kansas City. Our volunteers glean after the harvest\, picking what’s left in farmers’ fields and picking up already harvested leftover produce. The majority of the funds we raise helps secure semi-truckloads of donated produce that might otherwise end up in landfills. After the Harvest\, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit\, is the largest local produce donor to Harvesters—The Community Food Network. Learn more at aftertheharvestkc.org. \nThe location for this event will be determined the week of September 11th. We may not know the exact location until September 15th as After the Harvest works with growers to determine where there is food available to harvest. The location may be 30-45 minutes outside of downtown Kansas City. \nIMPORTANT! Each volunteer must fill out a liability waiver prior to the event: https://aftertheharvestkc.formtitan.com/signupplus?fld15=0033m00002uh7MSAAY&fld64=a0Y3m00000Us0tUEAR&fld65=a0a3m00000EsLFwAAN&fld66=a0X3m00000amjalEAA#/ \nGleaning FAQs: Read in preparation for your experience. https://aftertheharvestkc.org/home/gleaning-faq/ \n*By participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (http://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).

SUMMARY:KC Oasis Volunteers at Micah Ministry
DESCRIPTION:MASKS ARE OPTIONAL. \n*Note: It’s okay if you can’t get there until 5:15-5:30. \nAt Kansas City Oasis our values are “People are more important than beliefs\,” “human hands solve human problems\,” and “meaning comes from making a difference.” In that spirit\, we partner with Micah Ministry to help feed and clothe those in need. \nMicah Ministry serves hundreds of people every Monday evening from 5:15-7:15. They help anyone\, regardless of race\, gender\, religious (or nonreligious) affiliation\, sex\, sexual orientation\, or any other trait. Come join us in helping our less fortunate neighbors. \nVolunteers will greet the guests\, serve food\, offer beverages\, fill clothing requests and help with litter control. SUMMARY:KC Oasis Sunday Gathering – Featured speaker: Jen Mann: "Finding Funny in Difficult Situations"
DESCRIPTION:Location Update: We are now meeting at our new KC Oasis Community Center! \n1717 W. 41st St.\, KCMO 64111\nPlease park on the street or in the parking garage at KU Med\, two blocks due west. Our parking lot is reserved for those with mobility issues. \nMusical guest: Ivory Blue (https://www.facebook.com/IVORYBLUEMUSIC)\nCommunity moment: TBA\nFeatured speaker: Jen Mann\, “Finding Funny in Difficult Situations” \nJen Mann had what appeared to have the perfect life: a successful career as a bestselling author and award-winning blogger\, a devoted husband\, teenage kids who weren’t total jerks\, and a badass minivan. So imagine her surprise when\, at age 47\, a midlife crisis kicked her straight in the ladybits. She wrote a raw and vulnerable blog post in the middle of the night and started a movement to create a new space where middle-aged women can share openly and honestly with one another. \nJen Mann is best known for her wildly popular and hysterical blog People I Want to Punch in the Throat. She has been described by many as Erma Bombeck―with f-bombs. Jen is known for her hilarious rants and funny observations on everything from parenting to gift giving to celebrity behavior to politics to Elves on Shelves. She does not suffer fools lightly. Jen is the author of the New York Times bestseller People I Want to Punch in the Throat: Competitive Crafters\, Drop-Off Despots\, and Other Suburban Scourges\, which was a Finalist for a Goodreads Choice Award. Her latest book is Midlife Bites: Anyone Else Falling Apart\, Or Is It Just Me?\, which was a Nominee for a Goodreads Choice Award. She is also the mastermind behind the New York Times bestselling I Just Want to Pee Alone series. Jen is a married mother of two children whom she calls Gomer and Adolpha in her writings―she swears their real names are actually worse. \n*By participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (http://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).
