SUMMARY:KC Oasis Volunteers at Micah Ministry
DESCRIPTION:At Kansas City Oasis our values are “People are more important than beliefs\,” “human hands solve human problems\,” and “meaning comes from making a difference.” In that spirit\, we partner with Micah Ministry to help feed and clothe those in need. \nThe Micah Ministry is a charitable organization that seeks to help anyone\, regardless of race\, gender\, religious (or nonreligious) affiliation\, sex\, sexual orientation\, or any other trait – as long as they could use some help\, the Micah Ministry is there to help them. \nThe Micah Ministry operates in a way that’s a bit different from traditional support organizations. They feed those who seek their services with a restaurant-style waiting operation: Volunteers take drink and food orders and deliver the food to them\, providing seconds if needed and continuing to refill their drinks as needed. \nIn addition to food\, if there are enough volunteers\, they operate a clothing and household items (toiletries\, candles\, blankets\, and other items) store. Volunteers ask each person for their order\, go back into the store room\, and retrieve the requested items as long as they are in stock. \nThe Micah Ministry is a religious organization\, which means that the event is started by an optional group prayer at the beginning. \nWe have never been pressured to pray with them and they have always been glad to have us participate in their group. \nPictures are permitted to be taken prior to the admission of those in need\, but\, once people are being admitted into the dining area\, no pictures are allowed. \nBy participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (https://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).

SUMMARY:Sunday Gathering: Carrah Q\, "The Craft of Acting"
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 10:30 am for coffee and conversation.\nSunday Gathering begins at 11 a.m.\nChild care is provided. Everyone is welcome!\nProgram ends at 12:30 p.m. \nFeatured Speaker: Carrah Q\, “The Craft of Acting”\nCommunity Moment: Autumn Winegar\nMusical Guest: SecondChance Duo (https://www.facebook.com/secondchancetheduo/) \nGood acting matters when it comes to telling deeply moving stories about fellow humans. Acting is one of the most misunderstood art forms. This talk is about demystifying what goes into the craft of acting and how an actor creates a role. At its ultimate meaning\, acting is about empathy. Therefore\, this art form has much to teach us about how to exist in the world with those who might be different from us or who might behave differently. Knowledge of acting can lead to a better understanding of humanity and a greater appreciation for the arts in general. \nCarrah Q is a Spiritual trainer\, yoga teacher\, lipstick aficionado\, meditation instructor and religious educator. She holds a master’s degree\, with distinction\, in philosophy/ecumenics from Trinity College Dublin\, Ireland\, and a BA in religious studies from University of Arizona. \n*By participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (https://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).

DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 10:30 am for coffee and conversation.\nSunday Gathering begins at 11 a.m.\nChildcare is provided. Everyone is welcome!\nProgram ends at 12:30 p.m. \nFeatured Speaker: Robyn Ratcliff\, Executive Director\, Wildwood Outdoor Education Center (https://wildwoodctr.org/)\nCommunity Moment: Nate Brame\nMusical Guest: Unfit Wives (https://www.facebook.com/unfitwives/) \nAll kids benefit from active\, engaging summer programs. Summer “slide” or learning loss affects all children\, but it has a dramatic effect on low-income students and widens the opportunity gap for kids whose families cannot afford typical summer programs like camps\, lessons\, or sports. \nWildwood transforms summer into a season of learning\, youth development\, and outdoor adventure for all kids\, but especially for low-income KC youth. In weeklong summer sleep-away camps\, our campers practice critical thinking\, reading\, and STEM activities\, and build eight youth-development outcomes: feelings of connectedness\, interest in exploration\, family citizenship\, affinity for nature\, friendship skills\, and teamwork. \n*By participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct (https://www.kcoasis.org/about-oasis/code-of-conduct/).

SUMMARY:KC Oasis Volunteers to Help the Homeless with Micah Ministry
\nBy participating in this event\, you agree to abide by the Oasis Code of Conduct.
