Community Moment: John Ledford

Life is a series of transitions. There are endless opportunities to change and adapt as we grow older. Transition is all about flexibility – when embraced, it can help move something from an idea into a tangible state. Ash gives insight on how he navigates these transitions personally and professionally, from growing up in a religious community to being one of the leading queer activists in Kansas City.

Ash R. Allee, LMSW is a licensed social worker, professor, queer activist and consultant in Kansas City. Ash works with businesses, social service agencies and schools to provide training and assessment on topics related to gender and sexuality. He started his social work career at Synergy Services as an advocate for children and families. Following this, Ash spent a couple of years as an HIV case manager at KC CARE Health System, helping individuals living with HIV access medical services and financial assistance for healthcare costs. For the past decade, Ash has organized and facilitated numerous community events focused on raising awareness of the LGBTQ community. He is the co-creator and lead facilitator of Transformations, a trans youth support group. Ash also teaches Social Work at Park University and Johnson County Community College.
