Featured speakers: Kim Kountz and Megan Mooney, “Death Café”
Megan Mooney, LMSW, is passionate about hospice and palliative care. She has worked in this field for 15 years. She started her career working for the University of Missouri, conducting end-of-life research that focused mainly on hospice family caregivers. Megan is now a hospice social worker and bereavement counselor. In 2013, Megan founded Death Café St. Joe. She also started running the international Death Café Facebook page. Megan is now the Death Café lead U.S. She went to Hong Kong in 2014 and helped start the first Death Café there. She has a 19-year-old daughter in nursing school at KU and is a big KU fan. Kim Kountz has been working in the mental health field for seven years and as a grief specialist for three years. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and communications and a master’s degree in social work, and is working toward her LCSW. Kim started participating in death café in 2023. She is passionate in her work with grief and loss. She is happily married with two dogs and enjoys living life with loved ones while she can.
