What is the relationship between beauty and power? The more a woman claims her own autonomy and develops her sense of self away from notions of marriage, home and family, the more her sense of her own beauty become a part of her empowerment rather than a superficial decoration or distraction. History has shown this. Conversations in kitchens and bathrooms have proven this. The Powder Room is an innocent name for the many revolutions it spawned. Hairspray and lipstick have taken on a more significant meaning in the third wave of feminism. This talk is about the new glow, this deep “Bronzing Age” of female empowerment, in the beauty department. Cosmetics and conversation might just change the world. Pucker up.
