Grief and Loss — Finding Comfort:
Through her life Maureen experienced loss. It wasn’t until she became a hospice volunteer that she realized she was able to sit with people as they grieved. On February 7, 2015 she will talk with us about how to comfort ourselves as we experience grief and loss and how to help others. While she will discuss briefly the popular theories of grieving most of the discussion will be on practical suggestions on how to be present for those who are grieving and what to say and not say.

About Maureen Kennedy:
Maureen graduated from Fontbonne University in St Louis, Missouri with a degree in mathematics. She attended the University of Missouri at Columbia and obtained her Masters degree in Counseling and Student Personnel services.

In 1980 she joined the Metropolitan Community College — Penn Valley and worked on both the Penn Valley and then the Longview campuses in Job Placement Services. In 1994 she returned to Penn Valley as a counselor where she remained until her retirement in July 2010.

She was known for helping people deal with grief and loss. She initiated Remembrance Day on the Penn Valley campus as a way for persons to honor those they had lost.
