Jenna Dolecek is the Refugee Development and Community Engagement Coordinator for Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas. She was born in Wichita, lived in Kansas City for a few years as a child, and recently relocated from Denver.
Jenna received her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Wichita State, where she focused on history and politics of the Middle East and Russia. She obtained her Master of Human Rights Law and Policy from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, where she focused on international refugee law. Recently, she was granted a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law from the University of Essex in Colchester, England, where she focused on the laws of armed conflict, specifically, US airstrikes in Yemen and Operation Inherent Resolve (operations against Islamic State in Iraq & Syria).
Her interest in refugee issues began during her first master’s in Australia when she worked with asylum seekers who were being held in indefinite detention. She has now worked with refugees for the last four years, assisting with asylum applications and family reunification.
Jenna is interested in general human rights, the laws of armed conflict, and using technology to assist in the protection of human rights, which culminated in the publishing of her and her colleagues’ first work, Introductory Guide to Open Source Intelligence and Digital Verification. Her work in this area has been used by Amnesty International, the United Nations, and the governments of France and Australia.
