Individuality vs. community. Self vs. other(s). Selfishness vs. altruism. Self-reliance vs. interdependence. These are dualities that we live with daily, and balancing them in our lives is often a challenge. We live in a culture and historical period, at least in the West, that promote a hyperindividualism. Yet we are coming more and more to realize the need for community. This is the second of a two-part presentation.

Ron received his B.S.E. from Emporia State University, and his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from The University of Texas at Austin. He also studied at the University of Oklahoma, the United States International University in San Diego, and the University of Freiburg in Freiburg, Germany. He taught high school in Salina, Kansas, worked at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Lincoln, Nebraska, and was employed for 27 years as a psychologist and therapist at Family Guidance Center in St. Joseph, Missouri. He is currently retired.
