Kansas City Oasis Community Center 1717 W 41st St, Kansas City, MO

August's book is "Me Talk Pretty One Day" by David Sedaris. Please bring a snack to share. This vibrant collection of expat essays from legendary humorist David Sedaris is a cause for jubilation. Sedaris' move to Paris in the early aughts inspired hilarious pieces, such as "Me Talk Pretty One Day," about his attempts to learn French. His family is another inspiration — "You Can’t Kill the Rooster" is a portrait of his brother who talks incessant hip-hop slang to his bewildered father. And no one hones a finer fury in response to such modern annoyances as restaurant meals presented...

Kansas City Oasis Community Center 1717 W 41st St, Kansas City, MO

September's book is "The Witches: Salem, 1692" by Stacy Schiff. Please bring a snack to share. The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of the #1 national bestseller Cleopatra unpacks the mystery of the Salem Witch Trials. It ended less than a year later, but not before 19 men and women had been hanged and an elderly man crushed to death. The panic spread quickly, involving the most educated men and prominent politicians in the colony. Neighbors accused neighbors, parents and children each other....
